About Dr. Mylvaganam

Dr. Mylvaganam is an American Board of Obstetrics & Gynecology board-certified OB/GYN who brings a thoughtful, collaborative, evidence-based approach to women’s health care.  With training and clinical experience spanning Boston, New York City, time living in Canada and traveling to many other countries, and now Eastern Idaho, she is deeply committed to welcoming all patients with differing life circumstances and points of view.  She is here to support patients through every stage of their lives, from adolescence and family planning, to pregnancy, postpartum care, and the menopausal transition.  If she does not know a new treatment or answer, she will work diligently to research and find the answer for her patients.

Dr. Mylvaganam values a true “meeting of the minds” with both patients and colleagues.  She has worked closely with nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and certified nurse-midwives, serving in both collaborative and supervisory roles, and has trained medical students and resident physicians.  Her care-philosophy centers on listening carefully, answering questions openly and empowering patients with knowledge so they can confidently participate in decisions about their health (model called “shared decision making”).

Dr. Mylvangnam provides comprehensive ob/gyn care, including management of pregnancy and postpartum care, fertility guidance, contraception counseling, menopausal and perimenopausal care, chronic pelvic pain, endometriosis evaluation, abnormal uterine or vaginal bleeding, fibroids, adenomyosis, and permanent contraception.  She also performs routine well-woman and breast exams and emphasizes timely preventive screenings with appropriate medical specialists for cervical, breast, colorectal, bone, and thyroid health.  Although she is not trained in integrative medicine yet, she has a keen interest in learning more of the non-medical ways in which we can optimize a person’s health and therefore, life.

With a passion to properly educate patients, Dr. Mylvaganam has a strong interest in helping women understand their bodies across the life cycle, dispelling myths around contraception, pelvic pain and menopause, addressing abnormal bleeding in adolescence, and highlighting the critical role of nutrition, lifestyle and exercise, both cardiovascular and strength training, for women, particularly during peri- and post-menopause.  This type of movement can often be medicine as well.

Personal Background

Dr. Mylvaganam is a proud mother to three children and is married to a pediatric surgeon.  Originally from Miami, Florida, she spent 12 years in the greater Boston area and nearly a decade in New York City, with a year in Calgary, Alberta during her husband’s fellowship training.  She and her family relocated to Idaho Falls in August 2024, where they are enjoying the outdoor lifestyle and close-knit community.

Outside of work, she enjoys staying active, tackling challenging hikes, skiing, and exploring national parks with her family.  She also loves learning to cook and bake recipes and is continually working on becoming a calmer, less “Type A” parent.

Dr. Mylvaganam was inspired to pursue medicine by the resilience and strength of women around the world, particularly a midwife she encountered in Zambia and her own mother.
