Urinary Incontinence

Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy/EMS Biofeedback

Recent advances in the treatment of urinary incontinence have provided new options for improved bladder control without surgery or expensive prescription medications. Popular in Europe for over 30 years, these techniques are now available in the US. Incontinence is often dismissed as a normal part of aging.

However, bowel and bladder incontinence is abnormal at any age and is treatable and often curable. Recent estimates state that at least 25 million Americans are significantly affected by chronic urinary incontinence.

No other medical problem in the US directly affects so many Americans and receives so little attention from the medical community, government, new media, and medical research funding agencies. Incontinence is often incorrectly perceived as trivial or merely a hygiene problem. In fact, it is a serious medial disorder, frequently under-diagnosed and inadequately treated, which can lead to significant morbidity and death.

The annual cost to people affected by incontinence and the society exceeds $26 billion. Incontinence can be a symptom of many distinct underlying causes. Accurate diagnosis is crucial to successful treatment.

Patient Testimonials

“I am a sixty-eight year old woman. I couldn’t control my bladder. I had to change my clothes several times a day. I was afraid to go anywhere. I had surgery, which helped a lot, but I still was not totally in control. I began the biofeedback treatment and shortly thereafter began to have more control. I finished the course and now I am in total control. It has changed my life. I feel like a person again and can enjoy life. What a blessing!” – Lois

“Because I was experiencing more and more problems with waking up four to five times a night with urgency to go to the bathroom, and sometimes having a wetting accident before I got there, I sought the help of my doctor. For a while I took oral medication for bladder control but I experienced some side effects and had to quit taking it. That was when pelvic floor treatment was suggest – - combined biofeedback and exercises for several weeks. This proved to be an effective and gentle treatment and in a short time I was waking less often at night, and not having any wetting accidents. It is great to be able to get more sleep and have the freedom of not having to make so many trips to the bathroom.”
